This year’s GIE+Expo, held in Kentucky USA from 16-20 October, had strong Australian representation from both OEMs and dealers alike. Power Equipment Australasia has the scoop on the best from this year’s event.

October saw the world famous GIE+Expo (the Green Industry and Equipment Expo) take place in Louisville, Kentucky, USA – famous for Kentucky bourbon, Louisville slugger baseball bats, horse racing/Churchill downs, the home of the Kernel (KFC), the home of Mohammod Ali, fine American cuisine, and home to the world’s best outdoor power equipment industry trade show.

Louisville was the place to be from October 16-20, 2018. The GIE+Expo, housed in the Kentucky Expo Centre, lived up to its huge reputation and showed off the latest, most up-to-date products and world first innovations in the OPE industry. Battery operated product was in abundance and is very clear all the major OEMs are pushing hard down this new product avenue.

To see a complete battery operated zero-turn mower that can run up to six hours was nothing short of amazing.

The show consisted of two areas: the inside halls spanned across 500,000 square metres and held stands from over 850 exhibitors, showing off some impressive stands from many of the leading manufacturers and distributors for the OPE industry.

The outdoor section covered 20+ acres of some of the best product demonstrations seen at any trade show around the world. Hats off to the organisers and exhibitors for making one of the largest and most impressive GIE+Expos in the last two decades.

What makes GIE+Expo one of the best and most anticipated industry trade shows is the impressive after-hours entertainment in the famous Fourth Street precinct. GIE+Expo organised three nights of networking, fun and live entertainment in a happening bar and restaurant area. It is always great to see all the attendees and exhibitors from the show letting their hair down and listening to the likes of Cult Ford, Jane Kramer and The Krashers!

This year saw a huge contingency of Australians attending and exhibiting the GIE+Expo. International Mowers, Australian Scag distributor, took over 20+ dealers from across Australia to attend the GIE show as part of its rapidly growing success.

It was great to see so many Australian Scag dealers throughout the show including Joe and Alex from Silveys Mowers, Peter and Marion from Peter’s ATV, and Jackie and Ian from Cooroy Outdoor taking in everything GIE had to offer.

Cooroy Outdoor Power

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ian and Jackie Hawker and their team at Cooroy Outdoor Power on being recognized as the 2018 Australian Scag Dealer of the Year.

After the GIE show, Rob and the team from International Mowers took all their dealers to Chicago to the Scag factory, the Briggs & Stratton factory and the Harley Davidson factory; this was topped off with a Chicago Bulls basketball game. All dealers reported this to be a trip of a lifetime with lots of informative industry news and overall fun, fun, fun!

It was great to see some Australians exhibiting at this year’s show, including PMD International, who was displaying its full line of Archer Australia products. This was PMD’s fifth year exhibiting at GIE+Expo and was without doubt the busiest and best show the team has attended. It was great to hear of an Australian company penetrating the US market with its Archer saw chain range with so much success.

Our Australian counterparts from over the ditch, New Zealand, were represented very strongly by Masport who had a very impressive stand and have been strong supporters of the GIE+Expo for many years.

All in all the GIE+Expo was the largest turn out seen in the last two decades from both exhibitors and attendees, and has re-established itself as the number one outdoor power equipment trade show in the world. Do yourself a favour and be sure to make a trip to Kentucky not only for the original KFC and barbeque but for the outstanding GIE+Expo.
